    Place of Publication: Ljubljana

    Year of Publication: 1992

    Number of pages: 160
    ISBN: 86-7347-048-X

Short description: What happens to a revolution if women "meddle" in it? is the main question posed by the author. At the end she replaces it with the question: What happens with politics if women meddle in it? Is "feminist politics" possible and what are "women's" politics, as an institution already existing in modern countries? The author was not at all concerned with the relationship between revolution and women in order to elaborate any perfect image of "historical events" but rather "to break uniform images". For that reason she introduced in the relationship between "revolutions and women" the issue of reconceptualizing the political.

Short description: A study of Polish fiction by women, including those authors who became very popular and those who have been excluded from the cannon. Borkowska analyses not only the most interesting novels by women but also describes how women writers dealt with their position as women in a dependent country. The author describes the double oppression of Polish women and their way of dealing with it: either by rebellion more or less open, or by more covert and secretive way of stating women's rights. Moreover, Borkowska shows that the choice Polish women had to make was very tragic, because what was good for the country sometimes meant their greater oppression as women.

    Publisher: Centar za zenske studije
    Place of Publication: Zagreb
    Year: 2000
    ISBN 953-97414-4-0

Short description: The book ACTIVISTS 'Spelling out' theory maps the roles and activities of women within civil initiatives in Croatia from a self-referential position, that is, the personal experiences of women engaged in civil society within the last two decades. Originating as the result of the research project Women Within Civil Initiatives, the book deals with the inscribing of women's identity in civil/activist discourse through the questioning of the interrelationships of activist engagement and theoretical concepts.

On the one hand, this book shows the exceptional power of activists in civil society as the subjects of political transformation and advocates of new cultural values; on the other hand, it makes transparent the complex controversies of women's identity positions, acts of engagement, gender roles, and the strides made in the process of self-change. These multi-layered women's voices are presented within five paradigms, that is, in a contextual framework: identity, self-change, power, women's politics, and values. From a feminist perspective the book ACTIVISTS challenges the essential epistemological question: how can woman be the (self)epistemological subject in the interconnection of her experential knowledge, theoretical contributions and methodological explorations?
