Hello Friends in Debate,
My name is Alfred C. Snider, I am the debate coach at the University of Vermont in the USA. I have been following the emergence of debate teams in other countries with a lot of interest, and I am anxious to learn from you as well as share my ideas. As the Vice President of the Cross Examination Debate Association, America's largest collegiate debating organization, I am interested in encouraging global cooperation. As a friend and colleague of Ken Broda-Bahm I have also been following his comments about attending the workshop in the Czech Republic this summer.
I am involved in a summer program for debaters at coaches here in Vermont called the National Debate Institute. It has been going on for 14 years now each summer. It is now the largest summer program for college debaters in America. In the last two years we have hosted a Coaching Workshop as well. In both of the last two summers we invited coaches from Europe to attend our Coaching Workshop to share and learn. Last summer Tomi Kargacin of Yugoslavia attended, and this summer Dr. Pavicevic from Yugoslavia also attended.
I want to invite coaches from other countries to consider attending next summer. I will be sharing more detailed information later. We are proud to be able to offer a few fellowships to cover everything but food and travel.
I also want to let you know about our HUGE web site, DEBATE CENTRAL, which is available to anyone with an internet browser like Netscape or Mosaic. It has a lot of instructional materials on it which you should feel free to use, as well as many other things. This is my first posting to debate-l. I will be writing more in the days and weeks to come and I look forward to getting to know many of you better.
