EAST-WEST COLLABORATION IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF INTERACTIVE MEDIA

Our mission is to stimulate digital media usage and development. Although we have undertaken many joint-venture projects in pursuit of this aim, we felt that the development of a larger forum for exchanging information and ideas on digital information and communications technologies (ICT's) was needed.

1999 Conference
Accordingly, in May 1999 we planned and organised a conference called East-West Collaboration in the Development of Interactive Media. This was held at Lake Balaton in Hungary, and was very successful, attracting over 150 participants. Many useful introductions were made and lasting partnerships formed. Subsequently, joint projects were initiated. The conference was supported by the European Commission's Information Society Directorate General (formerly DG XIII).

2000 Conference
In May 2000, we hosted a second conference. This was also successful and productive, attracting even more participants than in 1999. Because the emphasis at these conferences is on people meeting and making contacts for future collaboration, there is a very informal atmosphere, and therefore plenty of opportunity for delegates to network and form useful professional relationships.

2001 Conference
In 2001 the conference was held in the city of Budapest.
