Key activities VTT Information Service is the information service unit of VTT,
the Technical Research Centre of Finland and a national
information centre. VTT is one of the biggest contract research
institutes in the Nordic countries with 2900 employees and
research in most fields of technology.
Key products The main activities are information retrieval, document
delivery, library services, training, consultancy and publishing
services.
VTT Information service maintains an electronic library for the
Research Centre containing primary electronic journals and
secondary services on its own server and links to
corresponding resources in commercial information
providers' servers.
EU projects VTT Information Service was the co-ordinator of the
BALTICSEAWEB project within the Libraries sector of the
Telematics Application
Programme. The project yielded a GUI to a database of
bibliographic information and links to original documents in
electronic form.
VTT Information Service acts as the co-ordinator in the
consortium responsible for MIDAS-Net Finland, the
Multimedia Information
Demonstration and Support Network of the EU INFO 2000
and MLIS programmes. Formerly VTT Information Service was
the Finnish
National Awareness Partner (NAP) of the IMPACT programme
promoting the development and use of electronic information
services.
Other projects include MAP and EUROMAP in the Language
Engineering sector of the Telematics Application Programme
and
MSSTUDY in the IMPACT programme and its renewal within
the INFO2000 programme.
Non-EU funded projects VTT Information Service has been nominated as the Nordic
Centre of Excellence for Electronic Publishing by Nordinfo, the
Nordic Council for Scientific Information. The aim of the
activity is to increase and promote the knowledge on
electronic publishing and implementations among Nordic
libraries, information services and publishers. Several
projects and consultancy assignments have been carried out
in this capacity.
