East - West Collaboration in the Development of Interactive Media Products

 

Conference objectives

This conference seeks to bring together companies and organisations from Central and Eastern Europe and from the 15 member states of the EU with the purpose of helping them to find potential partners for collaborative projects sponsored by the European Commission.

Participants will have the opportunity to present their innovative activities in the field of Electronic Publishing and exchange information on their respective research issues.


Background

This event is connected to call for proposals under "User-Friendly Information Society" section of the Fifth Framework Programme which has recently been announced by DGXIII. Companies are encouraged to establish contacts with potential partners in order to create and submit joint proposals for funding.

The call for proposals closes on 16 June 1999.


Who should attend?

Applications are welcome from all those companies and academic or nonprofit organisations that are interested in developing, in collaboration with a range of European partners, projects within the section "Multimedia Content and Tools" of the Fifth Framework Programme, and particularly in the following research areas:

1. Authoring and Design Systems

The aim of this call is to promote highly creative approach to multimedia content and design, particularly in products aimed at the publishing of reference, lifestyle, business and geographic information. Use of advanced technologies such as 3D applications and virtual reality is crucial to projects within this section. All products should be able to demonstrate, through the use of these technologies, greater usability, functionality and productivity, as well as cross-media integration and new multi-platform publishing endeavours.

2. Content Management and Personalisation

This call seeks to attract projects which will help individuals with differing needs to access, search, and retrieve various types of material (text, graphics, sound, video). Key content areas are, again, reference, lifestyle, business and geographic information. Projects sought include:
