The
below projects were initiated in 2000 and are now operational. Science, Technology and Medicine (STM) Journals The eIFL Direct project provides access to electronic social sciences and humanities journals, in 39 countries. We plan to add up to 13 countries to the project in the near future. Using EIFL as a model, we are expanding the scope of electronic information provision. The next phase, now under development, will provide science, technology and medicine journals, and bibliographic databases, to libraries and health care specialists. Talks are in progress with another leading international organisation to establish a strategic partnership, and form the world's largest health information consortium for countries in transition.
In 2000/2001 we are running electronic information strategy workshops for this region. Experts from each country, and from local foundations, will identify focus areas and generate project ideas. From these meetings project plans and strategies will be developed: these may be country-specific or regional. Countries included are Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Mongolia. The first workshop for the South Caucasus took place at the end of July 2000 in Yerevan, Armenia. More
information on the workshop. InfoBus The InfoBus is a cross-information program initiative by EPDP and the Library Program. The InfoBus will provide access to local and global information for areas outside cities. When launched it will consist of a mobile library and an electronic information and communications 'kit'. The InfoBus will function as an on-site email 'post office', local information provider, lending library, and on-demand gateway to information from the WWW. We are currently
developing the first InfoBus, which will be located in Kosova. |
