In many cases EPDP funded its projects jointly with other OSI regional programs (such as the Network Library Program or the Internet Program), or with national foundations.

The information about past projects is not intended as a guide to what kinds of project EPDP will support in the future. The policy of EPDP has changed direction since its inception. Information about the projects we are undertaking and promoting now can be found elsewhere on this website.

Some Sample Projects

Projects undertaken or supported by EPDP have used a range of electronic and digital media. We have assisted the development of databases of all types, distance-learning applications, and production of a wide range of electronic newsletters, journals, books and libraries. We have undertaken training programs in EP and multimedia production techniques, and run conferences on communications, inter-regional co-operation and digital media. We have also underwritten Internet communications projects, and multimedia products promoting art, science, history and culture.

Information about all EPDP projects, either completed or currently in progress, will be available on this site soon. Below are outlines of some projects.

HAPINET PROJECT (ZSOTER FOUNDATION), Hungary (US $11,769)
(From a report submitted by the Zsoter Foundation)

"The HAPINET (Handicapped Persons Internet) Project helps disabled young people to take part in the development of new technologies. In the first 3 years we educated their teachers to use Internet and multimedia facilities, we provided computer systems for them, and we trained them to overcome their physical problems. In 1998 we started the HAPINET Distance Learning Center. The center's aims are similar to those of the EU's ISdAC Project (Information Society disAbility Challenge) and other European telematic projects. The center has an Internet Homepage and an information division. We expect that in the future the running of the center, which is located in in the newly opened building for handicapped education, will be carried out largely by handicapped workers."

METAMORPHOSIS, Macedonia (US $20,000)

The aim of the Metamorphosis project is to develop a resource and training center where interested publishers, librarians, artists, media workers, students and others have the opportunity to get acquainted with electronic publishing technologies.

The center comprises:

• Electronic Publishing Training Room, with Internet access and equipment for training in electronic publishing, directed at special target groups such as publishers and NGO's. Specialised training focuses on typical problems related to electronic publishing, for example, fonts on the web (such as Cyrillic), security, and e-commerce.

• Electronic Publishing Library, which provides interested people with access to books, CD's and other materials on electronic publishing.
