The Interactive Media and Communications Training program began in 1998. It was designed to enhance local expertise in electronic publishing. The training supports the transfer of knowledge between specialists and content developers from different sectors. It focuses on stimulating the development of local content by educational and civil society organisations. Two components make up the training program for each country. First, a small number of local professionals attend a 'train-the-trainer' session held specifically for their country. Second, with the support of the international trainers, these local trainers organise a national seminar in their country. The forty or so participants at each national seminar are introduced to the conceptual and strategic challenges of developing a CD-ROM or Internet site, and work in groups to create such a product during the seminar. Nineteen train-the-trainer sessions and thirteen national seminars have already been organised by EPDP. Countries that have participated in training are: Romania, Macedonia, Albania, Georgia, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Latvia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Mongolia, Croatia, Armenia, Slovakia, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Lithuania, Uzbekistan and Yugoslavia. This training program is in its final phases in 2001, focusing primarily on the needs of Central Asia. At the end of 2000 its impact was independently evaluated. |
