About EPSU

The Education Program Support Unit (EPSU) assists national foundations, at their request, in strengthening existing programs and developing new programs in primary and secondary education. EPSU aims to facilitate cooperation and cross-fertilization of programs between national foundations; to identify professional and technical resources for foundation use; to help develop partnerships and cost-sharing with other donors; and to assist in monitoring and evaluating program impact.

EPSU was formed in mid-1995 as a response to requests by national foundation education program staff for support in strategic and program development, information exchange, and technical expertise and materials. EPSU consults with national foun dation staff, executive directors, board members, and education staff of regional programs at OSI-New York www.soros.org/youth.html and at OSI-Budapest to understand the needs and priorities of the foundations so it can provide appropriate support services to the Soros foundations network in primary and secondary education.

The Education Program Support Unit:

  • provides access to new information, through the dissemination of resource packs, and the organization of workshops and seminars for the network on specific topics in education;
  • provides direct technical assistance to national foundations through consultative visits by EPSU staff or appropriate outside consultants upon request;
  • facilitates information sharing among national foundations, through such means as the Open Society Education Update, a newsletter published electronically for the network;
  • promotes collaboration within the Soros foundations network and with other donors, where possible and appropriate.

EPSU remains ready to assist the national foundations with any primary or secondary education-related request. Additional information about the work of the unit can be found on the strategy pages. To request support, national foundation staff should contact Susan Rona (ronas@osi.hu)
