The Roma Education Initiative (REI)

The Roma Education Initiative was run by the Open Society Institute -
Budapest's Education Support Program (ESP) in cooperation with Children and
Youth Programs, Open Society Institute - New York. The Roma Education Initiative was a three-year effort to help increase national programming, and mobilize National Agendas, technical cooperation and resources for improving the quality of educational opportunities for Roma children. It worked on both the network and national levels and consists of two main components - technical support and grant giving. The initiative was launched in 2002. Participation of national foundations was optional.

The REI was located within the Education Support Program - ESP, which is a part of the Open Society Institute - OSI. REI's work was overseen by the Roma Education Working Committee. OSI is committed to working in partnership with governmental and non-governmental organizations in promoting equal access to quality education for all Roma children.
