comprise around 15 % of all pupils. Following are the

Less than half of Roma
children attend school. Due to low attendance in kindergartens,
children of Roma and Turkish background show poor
results later in the schools. Children in the primary
classes especially in small schools are victims of
poor teaching methods. Roma children leave school
after the 7-8th grade. Girls leave school at the age
of 12 because some get "stolen" for brides.
The poor living standards affect the educational levels.
Roma live in tight communities and communication with
the outside world is poor. Parents exhibit low levels
of motivation. Roma migrate in the spring to find
work and when the children come back for the next
school term they have to repeat the grade.
