The Forced Migration Projects have built a network of over 25 consultants to monitor developments in the former Soviet Union and the former Yugoslavia concerning refugees and displaced persons. The Projects aim to provide early warning of forced movements of people, and to identify social, economic and political conditions that cause such dislocations. Early and effective responses to migration and refugee emergencies are encouraged. In cases where return is not feasible, the Projects advocate humane treatment and permanent solutions for the displaced. Recognizing the value of prevention, the Projects also promote measures to diminish the causes of flight. |
