Another special report, Crimean Tatars: Repatriation and Conflict Prevention, examines the social, economic and political implications of the ongoing repatriation of Crimean Tatars to their homeland. Based on extensive interviews in the region, it addresses both specific problems faced by the Crimean Tatars, as well as the impact of resettlement on the broader inter-ethnic situation in the Crimea. Relations among Crimean Tatars, ethnic Russians and Ukrainians are currently peaceful, but potentially volatile. This report discusses possible scenarios and concludes with recommendations on managing the consequences of Crimean Tatar repatriation in ways designed to improve ethnic relations in Crimea and prevent conflict. |
