The MAPA Project

These pages are part of a project (called MAPA project, until we will find a more suggestive name, as MAPA is also the name of the methodology). The project was planned by the IEP together with a group of representatives of Soros foundations and of their spin-offs. It aims at strenghtening the coherence of the network of foundations and at increasing the quality of their development activities. The project is meant to assist the ongoing strategic planning and evaluation processes.

The project consists in building capacity through networking, methodology and training, in the activities of education programmes of foundations.

The Core of the Project: Training Link to the training support page

The initial core of the project consists in workshops to train participatory planning and evaluation. The sustainable core of the project will consist in methodological and networking support.

The full training comprises modules on strategy development, project planning and evaluation. The content and approach of the training represent:

a) a methodology based on principles of operation consistent with the open society mission:

- transparency
- participation

- democracy

b) a methodology based on international standards, consistent with the methodologies of main development agencies;

b) a coherent methodology for all the levels of strategic interventions:

- formulation of the mission
- development of a vision
- development of an intervention strategy
- programming (criteria for selecting programmes to implement strategy)
- projects (planning, implementation, evaluation)
- impact evaluation

The systemic impact throughout the network is aimed-for through training of trainers, cascaded training, provision of expert advice and assistance, feed-back and follow up of training events, and most of all, through sharing of experiences.
